Paul Dummett - Newcastle United's best defender v Chelsea

Paul Dummett starred as Newcastle held out for a memorable victory.

Newcastle recorded a memorable victory over Chelsea the weekend, to continue their hoodoo over Jose Mourinho and end the league leaders' unbeaten record.

The 2-1 victory ended in nervy fashion with Didier Drogba giving the Blues a lifeline, and a red card to Steven Taylor putting the hosts under added pressure.

While an equaliser may have seemed inevitable, Papiss Cisse's brace proved enough for the three points, thanks to a determined defensive stand. So who deserved most credit?

Welsh international Paul Dummett proved the pick of the bunch, outshining former World Cup star Fabricio Coloccini.

Dummett won twice as many aerial duels than the rest of the backline combined, and helped shield inexperienced goalkeeper Jak Alnwick in the final stages.

Even not taking into account his red card, Steven Taylor contributed the least of the back four, with no headers won or no tackles successfully made.
