Mourinho: Chelsea are the envy of our Premier League rivals

Mourinho Press Conference Still

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says he is delighted with his side’s start to the season.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that his side are currently the best team in the Premier League and the envy of their title challengers.

The Blues have been in superb form this season as they top the Premier League table, winning 11 of their 15 matches to date.

Summer signings Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa have more than settled in, and the evident balance and power in the side prompted many observers to predict that an unbeaten campaign was on the cards.

However, the Arsenal Invincibles from 2003-04 can relax in the knowledge that their record is safe for another season following Jose Mourinho’s side’s surprise 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

Despite their hiccup on Tyneside ruling out a possible history-making campaign, Mourinho remains encouraged by the Blues’ progress as he revels in their early-season success.

“For people like me who have been in football for so long you have to accept this anomaly. To come here and be better than our opponents and lose, that is football,” he was quoted as saying by The Mirror.

“Nobody has done better than us. Everyone would like to be in our position. So we are more than fine. We are better than anybody else.

“I don’t say my team is the best, I say my team is top of the league and at this moment nobody has the same points we have. Because of that at the moment we’re the best team in the Premier League."

The West London outfit will look to bounce back from their defeat at St. James’ Park with victory over strugglers Hull City at Stamford Bridge next week before heading in to the busy festive period.
