Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has spoken highly of Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.
The Spain international worked with the Dutchman at Spanish club Valencia, and he has fond memories of the time.
Koeman was the Valencia coach from October 2007 to April 2008, during which time he led Los Che to Copa del Rey triumph.
Other than that, the 51-year-old’s reign at Valencia was a disappointment, but Mata is still thankful to him.
“He was the one who gave me the confidence to play regularly in the team,” the 26-year-old told Sky Sports. “I am very happy for him. I think that he is having good season and he deserves that.”
Mata will come up against Koeman later today when United face Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.
United will head into the encounter placed fifth in the league table with 25 points from 14 matches, a point and a place behind Southampton.
