A round-up of how Liverpool’s loan stars got on this weekend.
Liverpool’s first-team could only manage a 0-0 draw against Sunderland this weekend, but their defence is showing considerable improvements and there are suggestions Brendan Rodgers’ side are turning a corner, albeit slowly.
But here we take a look at how some of Liverpool’s younger players are doing out on loan.
Tiago Ilori – Bordeaux
Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori had to make do with a place on the bench when Bordeaux hosted Lorient at the weekend.
The home side won the match 3-2 with Ilori an unused substitute and the young Liverpool player had made only four appearances for the Ligue 1 side to date.
Divock Origi – Lille
Liverpool’s £10million summer signing Divock Origi played the entire match for Lille against Lens on Sunday, but the Belgian international did not get on the score-sheet.
The match ended 1-1 after an injury-time equaliser from Lens and the 19-year-old will have been disappointed not to have added to his four goals this season.
Iago Aspas – Sevilla
Sevilla defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 on Sunday but Iago Aspas was an unused substitute.
When the Spaniard has got on the pitch this season he has showed what he is capable of, as two hat-tricks in the Copa del Rey prove. But he has to be patient for his chance in La Liga.
Luis Alberto – Malaga
Malaga won 1-0 away to Deportivo La Coruna this weekend but as with Aspas, Liverpool’s Luis Alberto spent the entire match on the bench.
He has played just 380 minutes of La Liga football so far this season.
Andre Wisdom – West Bromwich Albion
Andre Wisdom helped West Bromwich Albion to a clean-sheet against Hull City as the Baggies and the Tigers drew 0-0.
The Liverpool defender has impressed at The Hawthorns this season and it will be interesting to see what Brendan Rodgers’ long-term plans are regarding the player.
Joao Teixeira – Brighton & Hove Albion
Joao Teixeira started Brighton’s match against Derby County on Saturday but was substituted after just 27 minutes.
The 21-year-old winger has featured 15 times for the Championship side this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in that time.
Rafa Paez - Bologna
Spanish centre-back Rafa Paez played in Bologna's 2-2 draw with Catania at the weekend.
The 20-year-old has made six appearances in Serie B since his move but this was the first time he had started for the Italian club since match-day five.
His only other recent action was as a late substitute against Trapani but this performance could see him fight his back into first-team contention.
