Jordan Rossiter says Brendan Rodgers' faith in him helped during his debut against Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup.
The young midfielder was brought into the Reds team to face the Championship side back in September and impressed during his first appearance.
Rossiter scored in the early stages of the match as Liverpool edged past Aitor Karanka's men on penalties and the 17-year-old has revealed the advice Rodgers gave to him before he stepped onto the pitch.
"Just before I made my debut he said to me enjoy it, just go and show everyone what you can do because he believed in me," he told Bleacher Report during a question and answer session with the site.
"I got told the night before training with the first team at a team meeting that I was going to be starting. I can’t describe it, I couldn’t believe it.
"To make my debut was a dream come true but to score…I’d never even thought about it. I just wanted to have a good game and show everyone what I could do. When I scored it was a bonus."
Rossiter has not played for the club since that successful first showing but it was a display of the kind of quality that has excited regular watchers of the club's development side.
The hope is that Rossiter could emerge into one of the top talents to come through at the club in some time and he is likely to receive plenty more chances to impress in the future.
In the meantime, Rossiter, has returned to Liverpool's youth-sides but, after tasting the first-team life, he will be determined to make a long-term breakthrough as soon as possible.
