West Brom fans react on Twitter to Gareth McAuley's performance v Hull

West Brom - The Hawthorns

The Baggies defender returned to the starting line-up and impressed during the 0-0 draw against Hull City.

West Brom fans were delighted to see Gareth McAuley return to the starting line-up against Hull on Saturday afternoon - and they were even happier to see him put in a stellar performance.

The Baggies have hardly enjoyed the best of seasons so far but, after losing to West Ham in midweek, the best way their defence could have reacted was by getting a clean sheet.

That they did, as West Brom held Hull to a 0-0 draw. And McAuley was a big part of that.

“Gareth McAuley was outstanding from start to finish," boss Alan Irvine told Sky Sports after the game.

"He’s had to wait very patiently for his opportunity because Craig Dawson has done well for us this season. I just felt like now was the right time to make a change and I think that certainly paid off.

"If we’re going to get points out of the next couple of games, then we’re going to have to perform very well. On another day, at least one of those chances goes in."

Next for West Brom, of course, is the pressing need for goals. But, taking the positives from their goalless stalemate with Hull, Baggies fans heaped praise on McAuley after the game on Twitter...
