A number of Cruzeiro first-team players have told reporters that teammate Lucas Silva is set to join La Liga giants Real Madrid.
The Brazilian defensive midfielder has dominated the headlines in the Brazilian press in recent weeks after being linked with a move to a number of top European clubs.
Manchester United and Arsenal are among the Premier League contenders for his signature, both having strong cases of signing him in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils are still light in the midfield area, with boss Louis van Gaal favouring a 4-3-3 formation of late partly in due to a lack of central midfielders available for selection.
The Gunners on the other hand are in desperate need of acquiring a new midfielder, with current duo Arteta and Flamini both in their thirties and lacking the pace needed to perform on a consistent basis.
Silva, renowned as a technical defensive midfielder, would certainly be some coup for the Premier League elite but it appears Real Madrid are his likely buyers in a €15 million January move.
Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti recently stated that he is not looking to add any more bodies to his impressive Madrid squad in January, but Silva’s Cruzeiro teammates all think otherwise.
"Being able to play in a team like Real Madrid is a dream of any player. We know he will go, but he still can’t imagine it,” his teammate Mayke told Spanish publication AS.
Cruzeiro striker Borgas addd: "Lucas has it all to play for Madrid and we are waiting to happen as soon as possible. He is a midfielder which pressures, contains a lot of quality passing and has good finishing,”
And finally Everton Ribeiro, who commented: "Real Madrid is a great club and Lucas is a great player, both fit. Lucas has done a lot for Cruzeiro these past two years, now is the time for him to grow in Europe.”
