Arsenal attacker Lukas Podolski has taken to social media site Facebook in a bid to thank former Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo for participating in his charity foundation.
He wrote: “Reigning best player in world football - and supporter of my Foundation: Thank you Cristiano Ronaldo! Get the signed CR7 jersey now:”
Real Madrid superstar sent a signed shirt to the Gunners ace, writing a message saying: “To the Lukas Podolski foundation.”
It has been some week for the Portuguese international as his three goals against Celta Vigo yesterday was his 23rd Spanish top flight hat trick – surpassing legend Alfred di Stefano and setting a new La Liga record.
Since trading the Red Devils for the Spanish capital, the flying winger has scored 200 league goals in 178 appearances, an almost impossible record.
This season alone, Ronaldo has netted 23 league goals in 14 matches – a figure Podolski has not set since he netted 24 goals for FC Koln in the Budesliga second division in the 2004-05 season.
It has been a frustrating time on the field for the German star as he has yet to start a Premier League fixture for Arsene Wenger’s side this season, making just six substitute appearances.
There have been strong talks of a possible January exit, with a number of Serie A clubs and even Turkish outfit Galatasary said to be among those interested in his services.
In spite of his lack of game time, Podolski has achieved almost cult-hero status at the Emirates and along with Ronaldo it is refreshing to see renowned athletes regularly reach out to those in need of support.
