PHOTOS: The story of the game as Aston Villa beat Leicester 2-1

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Aston Villa moved up to 11th place in the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Leicester City.

In what many billed as a relegation six pointer, Aston Villa came out on top, defeating Leicester City 2-1 at Villa Park to pile the pressure on Foxes boss Nigel Pearson. Here are the best images from the game...

After a controversial week for Leicester and their manager Pearson, the Foxes actually took the lead, as Brad Guzan could only parry Riyad Mahrez's deflected shot in the direction of Leicester striker Leonardo Ulloa, who tucked the ball home from close range.

Yet just four minutes later, Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was picking the ball out of his net, as centre back Ciaran Clark sent a header into the far corner from Ashley Westwood's floated free kick.

Villa grabbed the winner with just 20 minutes to play, and it was an unlikely match winner, as right back Alan Hutton turned the ball home from Christian Benteke's pass - sparking wild celebrations at Villa Park.

Leicester's hopes of gaining a point were dashed with ten minutes to play, as left back Paul Konchesky received his marching orders following a tangle with Hutton, reducing his side to ten men.

The defeat for Leicester leaves them rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, and whilst they are still only four points from safety, the pressure is mounting on Pearson after a controversial week for the Foxes boss, which involved him swearing at his own fans after their midweek defeat to Liverpool.
