Seeing Sergio Aguero come off injured against Everton would have made Manchester City fans' hearts stop.
But seeing the likes of James Milner, Samir Nasri and more perform ably in his absence would have, instead, been heart-warming for the City faithful. Especially Milner.
The England midfielder, not to be confused with his parody account on Twitter 'Boring James Milner,' of course, was voted man of the match against Everton and may just have earned himself a new contract with his performances so far this season.
It was Milner that won Manchester City's match-winning penalty and the 28-year-old was full of belief after the game.
"I played on but I think there was contact, Jags tried to stop himself as he was coming in but I think outside the box it would have been a free-kick," Milner told Sky Sports after the game.
"It's very important. We were aware of the result but all we can control is what we do on the pitch. It's pleasing that we got the result after their result earlier on.
"It would have been very easy to slip up after seeing that result and being happy they dropped points, and we've played better recently than we did today but we did our job and got the result."
And Milner's contribution against Everton did not go unnoticed by Manchester City fans on Twitter after the Premier League win...
Milner today has to be the most popular MOTM announcement I've heard in the Etihad. Was everywhere and had some exquisite touches. #mcfc— Mark Booth (@markbooth_mcfc) December 6, 2014

Performance was mediocre but the result was excellent, Milner was fantastic and Hart produced an outrageous save from Lukaku #MCFC— Alex Lanigan (@AlexLanigan) December 6, 2014
Yaya said Thanks for getting me a penalty, James. I said Don't thank me, thank Phil Jagielka, he was the one who knocked me over.— Boring James Milner (@BoringMilner) December 6, 2014
