Mixed Martial Arts promotion UFC made an official announcement before last nights UFC 181 Pay-Per-View that former WWE Superstar CM Punk, real name Phil Brooks, had joined their ranks.
CM Punk was a huge fan favorite during his time at WWE, which ended in highly controversial circumstances when he quit the company. Whilst the real reasons for his departure are still somewhat unknown, what we do know is that he didn't leave quietly. Punk has been vocal about his disdain for the way WWE is run and has often claimed his reason for leaving to be be in relation to proposed storylines and directions for his character.
CM Punk is not the first former WWE star to move to UFC of course. Other wrestlers who have also joined UFC include Ken Shamrock, Bart Gunn, Batista, Sean O'Haire, Bobby Lashley, Alberto Del Rio and of course current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, who is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion.
During the press conference CM Punk said "This is my new career, 100 percent, I'm going to go full steam ahead, all systems go after today, and it's going to be fun."
UFC President Dana White also announced that Punk would likely be competing in the UFC Middleweight division.
CM Punk was also interviewed after the press conference by UFC Commentator Joe Rogan, which you can see below.
Whilst there is no confirmed date for CM Punk's UFC debut as of yet, we will of course keep you updated.
