On Sunday afternoon Lyon travel to the Parc des Sports in Annecy to take on Evian in Ligue 1’s early kick-off. The main attraction sees two potential Liverpool targets battle it out as they both enjoy impressive spells of form this season.
Evian’s Danish midfielder Daniel Wass has scored two stunning free-kicks in consecutive games, earning his side two must needed victories. Les Roses have won three out of their last five and have jumped out of the relegation zone for the time being.
Wass himself has scored seven goals this season, that’s only two off his total from last season, and with this likely to be his last season at the club, he would love to leave on a high, keeping his team in Ligue 1.
On the other side of the fence is Alexandre Lacazette, the OL forward has scored 11 goals this season, not including Thursday’s accidental winner against Reims that has been given to Reims ‘keeper Johnny Placide. That would end Lyon’s two game run without a run and keep them as favourites for third place.
Lacazette has scored 12 goals in 16 games this campaign and is heading quickly towards his record of 15 goals that he managed last season. The 23-year-old is the joint top scorer in Ligue 1 at the moment, with Wass in joint fifth place.
Both will be trying to get the upper-hand on Sunday, with both sides needing the three points for different reasons.
Wass will play on the right of Evian’s 4-4-2 at home as Pascal Dupraz looks to get down the wings against Lyon’s midfield. Lacazette will lead the Lyon attack in Hubert Fournier’s 4-3-1-2, but OL’s attack is very free-flowing and Lacazette will drift both to the left and right, looking for space in behind the ETG back-line.
Scouts from around Europe will be watching stars on each side this weekend, but there will be particular attention on both Wass and Lacazette. One could be an absolute bargain this winter, the other is primed to become a superstar when he eventually makes his big move – but that could be in 18 months’ time.
