Eric Dier could not have had a better start to life as a Tottenmham Hotspur player, as the former Sporting Lisbon man netted in consecutive matches against West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers.
But more recently Dier has been in and out of the side as Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino attempted to find a settled and effective starting XI.
That has been easier said than done, but Dier can reflect on a fine job this weekend after starting the match against Crystal Palace and playing a vital role in Tottenham's clean-sheet.
A 0-0 draw at home may not be the result Spurs fans were hoping for but they can be pleased with Dier's showing, as the 20-year-old won an impressive 21 battles during the match (15 ground duels and six aerial duels).
Tottenham's summer signing also went on four dribbles, won four tackles and made eight effective clearances.

A number of different players have occupied the right-back slot for Tottenham this season, and two more may do so before the campaign is out in the form of Kyle Walker and DeAndre Yedlin. But whatever happens in January and beyond, Dier has staked another claim to feature regularly.
Now all Spurs need to do is maintain that defensive stability but add more goals at the opposite end of the pitch.
