Manchester United and Arsenal have been handed a transfer boost ahead of January as Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti rules out a move for Brazilian youngster Lucas Silva.
The Cruzeiro star has been earning rave reviews in recent weeks, attracting the attentions of a host of top European teams as they bid to raid Brazil of their finest young stars.
Silva is regarded a technical defensive midfielder, a role which both United and the Gunners have lacked in recent seasons and one which they could look at strengthening during the January transfer window.
According to recent reports in Spain, the Premier League duo are said to be in competition with Real Madrid for his signature with the La Liga side favourite to land the €15 million-rated star.
Yet, when quizzed on the subject of the Brazilian ace, Italian coach Ancelotti handed the initiative to the reported competition by ruling out any arrivals in January.
“I’m happy with the squad I’ve got although Khedira has been a little unlucky with a minor problem but Jesé’s back. We don’t need to bring in anyone in January," he said, quoted by the Spanish paper AS.
After winning the Brazilian championship for two years running, many observers now feel that the time is right for Silva to try his hand at European football.
Former Arsenal star and now Cruzerio teammate Julio Baptista feels he has everything to succeed in the more demanding leagues and suggests holding out for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
