Ruud Gullit believes that Chelsea are going to find it more difficult to win games as the season progresses.
The former Netherlands international made the comments following the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday.
Papiss Demba Cisse put Newcastle ahead in the 57th minute and doubled the Magpies’ advantage on 78 minutes.
Although Didier Drogba halved the deficit seven minutes from time, it failed to instigate a comeback from Chelsea.
“Chelsea finds it harder and harder to play teams who defend very deep and this is what they are going to face a lot this season. come on #chelsea,” wrote the 52-year-old Gullit.
The defeat to Newcastle was Chelsea’s first in the Premier League this season and has given Manchester City a better chance of catching them.
Jose Mourinho’s side’s performances this campaign had seen them being compared with the Arsenal Invincibles squad, but the loss at St. James’ Park is a timely reminder that that feat of the Gunners is not as easy to replicate as many think so.
