Reports: Liverpool will keep faith with Mario Balotelli

The Italian striker will reportedly stay with the Reds beyond January.

According to reports in a number of media outlets last night, Liverpool are not interested in selling Mario Balotelli in January.

Both the Daily Mirror and the Guardian have reported the news - among others - and, if it proves true, it is sure to heavily affect Liverpool's transfer plans.

The Reds could still move for a new striker, of course, but, with Daniel Sturridge set to return for the New Year, Liverpool would then have four fit strikers to choose from.

Yes, Fabio Borini may leave to make way for a new recruit. But Brendan Rodgers' side would still then have four strikers to choose from...

And, based on current form, Balotelli would be bottom of that list.

Forget his off-field antics for a minute, there is no denying the Italian's form has been absolutely woeful since he moved to Anfield. Not admitting he is a bad fit at Liverpool is simply a dereliction of duty.

The 24-year-old may fare better if the Reds go two up top - which suggests that Rodgers' faith in him will deter Liverpool from spending on another striker in January.

Liverpool fans will hope this doesn't prove a costly decision. The stakes, after all, are extremely high this season.
