The Northern Irishman says Rio Ferdinand and Sergio Ramos are his favourite defenders.
This season has seen plenty of debate over the defence at Manchester United. In the summer the club lost the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra and they did not make the defensive additions many expected.
The likes of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are also very injury prone but Louis van Gaal only brought in Marcos Rojo in the summer.
But Manchester United have a proud record of bringing in youngsters and Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair have been thrown in to the equation. They have not disappointed. McNair in particular has surprised with his performances as he was a relative unknown before injuries meant he had to get involved in the first-team.
Now a fully-fledged member of the team and recently earning a call-up to the Northern Ireland senior team.
Now he has been discussing his favourite centre-backs with fans on Facebook. It was a question and answer session and, while he mentioned Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid, he also had great things to say about one of the defenders who left Manchester United in the summer:
"All-time [favourite defender], probably Rio Ferdinand and Sergio Ramos. I trained with Rio a few times when he was here, and he passed on a few tips, and Ramos is a really good player for Real Madrid. He’s more of a footballer than a defender."
If he can go on to emulate Rio at United then he will certainly be happy.
