Newcastle recorded yet another win, this time ending Chelsea's unbeaten run - and Jack Colback was instrumental.
Newcastle United's recent upturn in form has seen them beat the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool, but today's win over Chelsea was by far their best of the campaign.
The Blues rolled into Tyneside unbeaten so far this season, and with many people saying they could end the season unbeaten, it was a big test of those credentials.
Jose Mourinho's men dominated the first half, but the second half became much more even, and when Gary Cahill failed to cut out Sammy Ameobi's left wing cross, Papiss Cisse put the Magpies in front from close range.
Cisse then made it two when he swept the ball into an unguarded net after Moussa Sissoko broke through the Chelsea defence.
Steven Taylor's sending off gave Chelsea a lifeline, and when Didier Drogba headed home from the resulting free kick, Newcastle had their backs against the wall.
However, Newcastle held on for the win, ending Chelsea's unbeaten run and giving Alan Pardew's men a surprise victory at St. James' Park.
There were a number of outstanding displays for Newcastle, but midfielder Jack Colback will claim most of the credit. Colback was superb in the heart of midfield, and played a defence splitting pass for Cisse's second goal.
Supporters took to Twitter to voice their delight with Colback's performance, with many pointing out how they managed to land him on a free transfer from rivals Sunderland in the summer.
The only thing more satisfying than knowing we got Jack Colback on a free is knowing we got him off Sunderland! Get in newcastle! #nufc— Adam Lockey (@AdamLockey) December 6, 2014
