Manchester United’s on-loan winger Nani was substituted in the first half of Sporting Lisbon’s Primeira Liga match against Boavista on Friday evening.
It would have been a big blow for the player who has been in great form since he moved back to his former club for the season, but his second-half absence did not prevent Sporting from winning 3-1.
However, it is now being reported that Nani could miss the upcoming Champions League group match against Chelsea.
The United winger has scored six goals and set up an additional five this season, and the Portuguese side would want him fit and available as they head into a match they must at least draw to ensure they are not relying on other results to qualify for the knock-out stages.
But newspaper A Bola reports that Nani is now a doubt for the game against group leaders Chelsea, with an injury to his right thigh set to be evaluated in the coming days.
Chelsea are currently top of Group G with 11 points while Sporting are in second place with seven and Schalke are third with five.
Speaking on Friday, Sporting manager Marco Silva said, “In the coming days we will have more certainty about the type of injury that is.”
Nani has been tipped to return to United in due course having impressed during his loan spell, but for now he will be fully focused on getting fit for a match against Chelsea he will be desperate to take part in.
