Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that the Premier League title race will be “back on” if Manchester City win against Everton tonight.
The former England international defender made the comments following Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
Papiss Demba Cisse put the Magpies ahead in the 57th minute and doubled the home team’s advantage on 78 minutes.
Although Didier Drogba halved the deficit seven minutes from time, it failed to instigate a comeback from Chelsea.
I know the title race wasn't over but 6 points and the difference between the 2 this season was a worry they would run away with it.— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) December 6, 2014
The gap between Chelsea and second-placed City is still six points, but the Citizens will reduce it to three if they win against Everton at the Etihad Stadium this evening.
It will not be easy for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to get the better of the Toffees, but one suspects that the players will be doubly motivated to pick up all three points against the Merseyside outfit.
