Former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will be pleased to have lost to Newcastle United.
“I think to a certain extent that air of invincibility that Chelsea had is now gone,” he told Sky Sports.
“Jose Mourinho will be pleased to a certain extent that it is gone, and now they have to move on and bounce back.”
Redknapp’s comments will come as a surprise to many. After all, Chelsea’s 2-1 loss at St. James’ Park combined Manchester City’s 1-0 home win against Everton means that the gap between the top two sides is now just three points.
Perhaps Chelsea will come back stronger because of the defeat. Since the start of the season, Jose Mourinho’s side were being built as the new Invincibles. Not that it is out of the window, maybe it will make the Blues a better team.
