Jamie Carragher was trying to explain how having all the money to spend does not matter.
This summer Liverpool lost their star player Luis Suarez to Barcelona. The former Ajax man left in a deal worth a fee in the region of £75 million.
Instead of spending all of that money on one big name Liverpool instead invested it across the pitch. The likes of Dejan Lovren, Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana all arrived - with plenty more also making the switch to Anfield.
It is fair to say that none of them have really shown their best form yet.
Of course it is not just these signings that show that Liverpool do not always get it right in the Premier League when it comes to recruitment.
The likes of Joe Cole, Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll all immediately spring to mind. Alberto Aquillani another, perhaps even Simon Mignolet.
Of course they get it right a lot of the time as well. Pepe Reina, Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso - Liverpool have snapped up their fair share of top quality players, Suarez included.
But one man who highlighted the disappointment in many of Liverpool's past signings was Jamie Carragher last night on Twitter.
One fan responded that when someone like Mourinho at Chelsea has the money to buy top quality, then that is what he will get - his job is therefore easy.
Carragher used Liverpool to highlight the fact that spending big does not always mean spending well...
