Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has dismissed Manchester United’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
The Red Devils are currently fourth in the league table with 25 points from 14 matches, 11 points behind leaders Chelsea.
United have won their last four league matches and seem to have gained some momentum, but Carragher insists that Louis van Gaal’s won’t be able to challenge for the title.
“What this season? No chance!” the 36-year-old told Sky Sports when asked if United can challenge for the Premier League title this campaign.
“United won’t challenge for the title this season but with the money that’s rumoured to be spent in January, or in the summer, you would expect them to be up there challenging sooner rather than later…
“The main aim of the club is to just qualify for the Champions League again and I am sure if they achieve that this season, the aim will be to challenge for the title next season.”
The main objective for United this season is to finish in the top four of the Premier League, but could they really launch a challenge for the title?
If Chelsea and Manchester City, who are first and second respectively at the moment, drop points and United continue to win, then why not?
The question is: will Chelsea and City drop points?
