Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jason Cundy has backed both Arsenal and Manchester United to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
The 45-year-old gave his prediction in his column for the IBTimes UK, while also explaining his reasons.
“Arsenal are my tip to sneak into the Champions League in fourth place, behind United,” wrote Cundy.
“Wenger’s got a better squad at his disposal than Rodgers, and he always finds a way to qualify – he's been doing it for 15 years, so he should know all the tricks by now!
“And Arsenal have got players like Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck... they can all get you a goal out of nothing, whereas Liverpool don't really have anyone who can do that apart from Raheem Sterling. So I can't see Liverpool finishing ahead of Arsenal this year.”
Cundy’s prediction about Arsenal will not please Tottenham fans, but his logic makes perfect sense.
The Gunners have always somehow managed to finish in the top four of the Premier League season after season, and manager Arsene Wenger will make sure that they do so again this season.
Manchester United, too, should end up in the top four, although their performances (over the course of the season and not only in the past four games) suggest that they cannot be certain of that.
With Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool also harbouring hopes of a top-four finish, it promises to be an exciting season indeed.
Oh, a footnote about Chelsea and Manchester City. They are going to be the top two sides. Period.
