Former Arsenal winger Robert Pires has admitted that he knows that he is hated by Tottenham Hotspur.
And he knows why.
Pires, now at Indian Super League club FC Goa, was on the books of Arsenal for six years between 2000 and 2006, establishing himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.
During his time at the Gunners, the 41-year-old won the league title on two occasions, the FA Cup three times and the FA Community Shield twice.
The former France international, who also won the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000, has spoken of the intense rivalry that exists between Arsenal and Tottenham.
“Two things — I know why Arsenal fans love me and Tottenham supporters hate me,” Pires told The Hindu.
“I played 11 games (against them) and scored eight goals. Yesterday, a fan clicked a picture with me and then said he hates me. I asked him why and he said he is a Tottenham fan. I said, ‘Okay, I understand!’”
