Chelsea player ratings from their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United.
Thibaut Courtois 6 - not a great deal he could do with either goal. Was exposed by some poor defending in front of him.
Branislav Ivanovic 6 - had some trouble with Ameobi was generally solid, got forward to support the attack fairly well.
Gary Cahill 5 - at fault for the first goal, should've cleared the danger. All at sea with the second goal. Worst display for a while.
John Terry 5 - wasn't a great deal better than Cahill in truth, as Newcastle exposed his lack of pace on the counter attack.
Cesar Azpilicueta 6 - didn't contribute as much as usual and was unsurprisingly substituted for Filipe Luis in a bid to add better balance to the side.
John Obi Mikel 6 - did okay in place of Nemanja Matic, but missed a golden opportunity in the second half. Didn't move the ball as quickly as Matic does.
Cesc Fabregas 6 - couldn't unpick the Newcastle defence and was too often lethargic in getting forward, may need a rest from the first team.
Oscar 6 - went close with an overhead kick but much like many of his team mates, this was something of an off day for Oscar.
Willian 7 - Dangerous early on in the game but faded, which led to him being substituted in favour of Andre Schurrle as Jose Mourinho chased goals.
Eden Hazard 7 - probed away at the Newcastle defence with mazy runs but was ultimately halted by the superb Daryl Janmaat. Chelsea needed that little bit more from Hazard today, but it didn't arrive.
Diego Costa 5 - virtually anonymous throughout, Costa just didn't get any joy out of Fabricio Coloccini, though the service in to him wasn't as good as usual today.
Andre Schurrle 6 - didn't offer the attacking impetus Chelsea were looking for when he came on.
Didier Drogba 7 - gave Chelsea hope with his goal, and caused problems for Newcastle with his strength and aerial ability.
Filipe Luis 6 - couldn't do much with Cisse's second goal and offered natural width on the left.
