Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas were criticised for missing Spain’s recent international fixtures.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi has said that Chelsea duo Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa have never shown anything less than 100% commitment to Spanish national team despite a number of doubts and criticism.

The Blues’ duo didn’t participate for Spain in the recent fixtures against Belarus and Germany, citing injuries which caused somewhat of a frenzy in the Spanish media.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had been calling for the exclusion from international duty as a result of injuries for a number of weeks leading up to the break, despite their involvement for the West London outfit.

As both players pulled out, reporters questioned their commitment and Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos also had some strong opinions on the matter.

The situation still hasn’t blown over and the players’ return to top form at Stamford Bridge has only angered further certain sectors of those associated with the Spanish national team.

Speaking on the matter, Barca ace Xavi backed his compatriots, stating that has experienced similar setbacks and requested that the public back the players.

"I think we should never doubt the commitment of any player, on that basis. It has happened to me many times, I stopped going by different annoyances. I have spoken with the coach, there is no need to go over this again,” he is quoted as saying by the Spanish paper El Confidencial.

Since missing La Roja’s two international matches, Fabregas has started all four of the Blues’ recent matches, performing well and contributing with two assists.

Diego Costa on other hand has been involved in three of the previous four Blues matches, missing the 3-0 Premier League victory over Spurs with suspension.
