Arsenal Invincible tweets in delight as Chelsea fall to Newcastle

Chelsea’s 14-game unbeaten Premier League run came to an end with a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has taken to social media site Twitter in order to share his delight at Chelsea losing for the first time this season as they were downed 2-1 by Newcastle United.

He wrote: “Really enjoyed watching Chelsea this season. But delighted they got beat today. Still big favourites for the league. #invinciblegooners”

The Blues were previously on a 14-game unbeaten run in the league, and a 23-match streak in all competitions, convincing many observers to draw comparisons with the Gunners’ 2003-04 Invincibles.

After already playing against the likes of Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and City away from home, some could argue that the Blues had already navigated their way through the so-called tougher fixtures.

Newcastle, however, boasted an excellent record against Jose Mourinho’s side and did what no other team has done this season - break the West Londoners’ resilience with an excellent 2-1 victory.

The defeat means that the Gunners’ 49-game unbeaten league record, including the entire 2003-04 season, is safe for at least another season prompting Parlour to share his delight on Twitter.

Despite the defeat, the Stamford Bridge outfit remain in an extremely strong position at the top of the table and are heavy favourites to pip rivals Manchester City to the title, a stance Parlour also acknowledges.

The Blues will look to bounce back with victory in the Champions League on Tuesday before they host strugglers Hull City in the league next weekend.
