Papiss Cisse may have scored the goals, and Jak Alnwick may have come off the bench to make himself an instant hero between the posts, but Newcastle United's 2-1 victory against Chelsea owed itself to the collective effort of Alan Pardew's side.
But while every player would have left the St James' Park turf with their head held high, defender Paul Dummett can be especially pleased with his contribution.
With the attacking players at their disposal, Chelsea are always going to be a threat for the full 90 minutes and beyond, but Newcastle's defence held firm, breached only once and ultimately holding out for a win that took their points tally to 23 for the season.
In Dummett, Newcastle had a player who excelled in his battles with Chelsea's stars, the 23-year-old making 11 effective clearances and winning numerous battles both on the ground and in the air.
As you can see from the Opta stats below, the Newcastle player won seven ground duels and seven aerial battles - considerably more than any of his defensive teammates. He also made two valuable interceptions.
|Effective Clearances||Duels Won||Aerials Won||Interceptions Won||Mins Played|
In short Dummett stood out in a side full of heroes and Pardew will be grateful to him for helping his side get back to winning ways in the most dramatic and exciting of styles.
There is no telling where Newcastle will end this season, but in Dummett they have a player destined for the very top.
