Mario Balotelli may be offered a way out of his nightmare spell at Anfield in the unlikely form of a move to Sampdoria.
Sampdoria have enjoyed an unexpectedly strong start to the season in Serie A and the buoyant mood may extend to their winter transfer dealings.
Meanwhile, Balotelli has failed to fit in at Liverpool since his summer move from AC Milan and there is endless speculation that he may be on his way out.
Romero was known to be on Liverpool's shopping list in the summer and he has the same agent as Balotelli, Mino Raiola.
Despite being linked with Manchester United and Manchester City, Romero didn't agree a move and has been left out in the cold at Sampdoria, who are keen to stop paying his wages.
The Corriere Mercantile believes that an exchange of loans may be possible if Sampdoria can persuade Liverpool to keep paying a significant percentage of Balotelli's wages.
It is rumoured that Raiola has been impressed with the way Sampdoria have rehabilitated talented striker Stefano Okaka and hopes they can do the same with Balotelli.
At this stage the reports still seem somewhat fanciful, but Balotelli is running out of chances at Liverpool and a loan switch may become a mutually attractive option.
