Paul Merson has backed Arsenal to get the better of Stoke City away from home in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Gunners will head into the encounter at the Britannia Stadium high on confidence and as the favourites.
Arsenal have won their last three matches in all competitions, and Merson claims that the North London outfit will make it three of three in the league.
“I think Arsenal have turned the corner,” the 46-year-old former Arsenal attacker wrote on Skysports.com. “They look much more solid at the back now Laurent Koscielny is fit again.
“Southampton could’ve still been playing now and I don’t think they would’ve scored a goal. I know they are reliant on Alexis Sanchez but if Southampton couldn’t score against them, then I don’t think Stoke will. Another clean sheet.”
All Arsenal fans and many neutrals will agree with Merson’s prediction that Arsenal will win against Stoke.
Merson’s claims that the Gunners are “reliant” on Sanchez will also be agreed upon by many football followers. The £35 million summer signing has been their best player so far this season - without him Arsenal will be struggling in mid-table or the bottom half of the standings.
In 13 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, Sanchez has scored nine goals and created 33 chances, while having a 77% pass accuracy and a 74% shot accuracy.
But it is wrong of Arsenal to be ‘reliant’ on Sanchez? Perhaps, but if they have someone who can score goals and also be a force in attack, then why shouldn’t they be ‘reliant’ on him?
