On this day: Suarez going nowhere; Manchester United's £29.9m deal still on

Ander Herrera

On the 5th December 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Liverpool and Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 5th December 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 5th December 2013…

Suarez going nowhere

A year ago today and Brendan Rodgers was making it clear that Luis Suarez was going nowhere. It came the day after he scored four goals for Liverpool against Norwich City. The likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid were interested in the player, who was known to want Champions League football,

But Rodgers said he was going nowhere:

"There never was that (agreement) before and there never was that this summer. The contract was what it was. We want him to stay and with his contract running for two and a half years I am sure there will be something between now and the end of the season to keep him here but there will be a number of dependencies on that. But the most important thing is that the player is happy. I didn't sit in on the conversations but as I understand it there is no agreement of any kind."

But after another biting incident at the World Cup this summer Liverpool decided to cash in on the player - selling him to Barcelona for £75 million.

And they have struggled ever since.

Herrera picking pace

Manchester United were being linked with Ander Herrera a year ago today.

It came after a botched move for the player in the summer, which left egg on the face of United's transfer recruitment program.

They did not go back in for him in January, but at the end of the season they finally got their man. United signed Herrera for £29.9 million in the summer.
