Michael Owen predicts Stoke City v Arsenal Premier League clash

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen backs Stoke City to pick up a point from the Premier League encounter against Arsenal at the Britannia Stadium.

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has predicted Saturday’s Premier League clash between Stoke City and Arsenal at the Britannia Stadium to end in a draw.

“This is the cliched game that Arsene Wenger’s stereotypical Arsenal side have struggled with, boasting a terrible record at the Britannia, winning just one of their last eight visits,” the 34-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com.

“After commentating on the Gunners’ game with Southampton midweek, they have to be taken on at the prices. The Saints controlled large portions of the game and were caught out late on when reduced to ten men, having used up all their substitutions.

“Whilst likely to be less physical than previous encounters, there’s still bad blood between the sides and I expect the hosts’ to nick a share of the spoils at the very least.

“Stoke manager Mark Hughes boasts a terrific record against Arsenal personally, unbeaten on home soil in his last 6, which should become 7 by 5pm on Saturday.”

The past records that Owen speaks about will mean nothing on Saturday.

How does it matter that Stoke manager Mark Hughes has a strong record against Arsenal, or that the Gunners have struggled at the Britannia in the past?

However, Owen’s prediction that Stoke could pick up a point could come true. As good as the Gunners have been in recent weeks, the Potters can and do make things tough for opposition sides at the Britannia.

For Arsenal to win on Saturday, the players need to be at their very best. With Alexis Sanchez firing on all cylinders, the North London outfit should be considered favourites.

But, as they say, anything can happen.
