Lovenkrands: 4-4 draw with Arsenal proves how good Newcastle boss Pardew is

Alan Pardew

The former Newcastle United star has given the current boss his backing.

Former Newcastle United forward Peter Lovenkrands believes Alan Pardew has proved himself as head coach at St James' Park.

And the biggest example of Pardew's managerial ability is the 4-4 draw between Newcastle and Arsenal in 2011, according to the 34-year-old.

Arsenal led 4-0 in that game but the Magpies fought back to earn the unlikeliest of draws - all apparently thanks to the boss's half-time team-talk.

"Best games? The 4-4 draw against Arsenal is one that sticks out for me," Lovenkrands wrote in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

"I played in that game and it was incredible. When you are 4-0 down at half-time to a team like Arsenal you think: ‘**** - this is going to end up 8-0 or something!’

"The way he organised the team that day at half-time was memorable. He dug into a couple of players at the break. You need to do that sometimes in those situations – then he rearranged the team and we went out and we produced for him."
