Former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has backed Manchester City to ease past Everton on Saturday.
Defending English champions City will head into the Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium as the favourites, and Redknapp believes that they will pick up all three points.
“Everton, meanwhile, seem to be struggling to find the finesse and quality they possessed last year at the moment,” he wrote on Skysports.com. “That spark and belief in what they’re doing isn’t there right now.
“That’s partly down to tiredness, and Roberto Martinez referenced that this week. He’s made a point of playing his strongest side in the Europa League and that seems to be coming back to haunt him.
“It will come back for Everton because Martinez does get results out of his players – but I don’t think he’ll do that on Saturday. I’m tipping a 3-1 win to Man City, who are starting to hit their stride.”
One has to back Redknapp’s prediction: City should win the game against Everton.
There is little doubt that manager Manuel Pellegrini has the better squad, and with the team now starting to get results, they should make it a comfortable victory over the Toffees.
City have won their last four competitive matches, scoring 12 goals in the process, and will be determined to try to close the gap between themselves and Chelsea.
Everton have top-four ambitions and will not head to Manchester with fear, but Roberto Martinez’s side would do well to pick up a point at the Etihad.
