Bolton Wanderers were understandably active on Twitter on Friday morning, following confirmation of Eidur Gudjohnsen’s much-anticipated return to the club on a deal until the end of the season.
Gudjohnsen, 36, spent two seasons with Bolton in the second-tier from 1998 to 2000, scoring 27 times in 77 appearances before moving to Chelsea for £4 million and then Barcelona in 2006.
Having struggled to find a new club since his contract with Club Brugge expired this summer, the Icelandic forward had been training with his old team over the past two weeks in the hopes of landing a deal.
His subsequent performance in a reserve team match against Middlesbrough impressed manager Neil Lennon enough to hand him a short-term contract, with the Northern Irishman expecting him to become an important contributor to the side moving forward.
"I think he'll be a big-game player and enjoy the occasion," Lennon told BBC Radio Manchester.
"It will take him a little bit of time to adjust to the Championship and the quality of player he's used to playing with.
"We need that type of player with Mark Davies out and Chung Yong-Lee might not be here [because of international commitments] in January."
With his former fan favourite status, supporters seem more than pleased to have Gudjohnsen back in Lancashire, with the following just a handful of the reactions.
