Marvel have officially announced that Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek: Into Darkness, The Hobbit Trilogy, Sherlock) will play Steve Strange in their 2016 movie Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange follows the story of Steve Strange, a brilliant but arrogant surgeon who gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to fight evil and save the world.

Whilst not the most well known character from the Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange has a huge cult following and the comics have a depth and intelligence often overlooked in titles like Iron Man or Captain America.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the only cast member to have been announced so far but Doctor Strange promises to something a little different from Marvel Studios.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige (Avengers Assemble, Iron Man, X-Men). “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Doctor Strange will be Directed by Scott Derrickson (The Excorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, The Day The Earth Stood Still) and will be released 04th November 2016.
