Arsenal and Birmingham fans react on Twitter to Nikola Zigic re-signing

The giant Serb has re-joined Birmingham five months after being released.

This summer Arsenal were linked with a shock move for former Birmingham City striker Nikola Zigic.

The 33-year-old, 6ft 8 inches tall Serbian who managed just seven goals in the Championship last season was apparently a short term option. But even though Zigic's agent Milan Calasan confirmed the approach many felt the offer was not entirely genuine.

But with Olivier Giroud out until January it was being reported that Arsenal were keen on his signature. Zigic himself eventually confirmed the potential deal, stating it was him or Danny Welbeck for Arsenal:

He told the International Business Times:

"Everything that you saw in the press was true. My agent was talking with Arsenal but they finally opted for another player [Welbeck]. We talked with them until the last days of the market. I am very happy because Arsenal had me on their list. I would have liked it. But big teams always consider several alternatives [before signing one]."

Yesterday however Zigic found a team. After being granted a work permit he re-joined Birmingham City.

The news was confirmed on the Birmingham City Twitter feed yesterday as Gary Rowett was obviously impressed by what he saw from the 33-year-old striker. He played in a development game against Liverpool on Tuesday and is set to stay at the club until the end of the season.

And there has of course been plenty of reaction on Twitter to the news that Zigic is on his way back to St Andrews, from both Arsenal and Birmingham fans.

Here is some of the best...
