Ander Herrera has said that Wayne Rooney is the most competitive player in Manchester United’s training session.
“Wazza,” the Spanish midfielder told the club’s official website when asked the question. “Wayne Rooney, always.”
This is not the first time that a United player has claimed Rooney to be most competitive in training: £14 million summer signing Daley Blind said the same thing earlier this season.
Rooney is 29 years of age, but it seems that he has retained the fighting spirit and competitiveness that endeared him to all football followers back in the early noughties.
Signed from Everton in the summer of 2004 for a reported transfer fee of £27 million, the England international has often been criticised for not giving enough.
In recent times there have been suggestions that Rooney is past his prime. That may be true, but the Englishman still remains a brilliant footballer.
