Torino are reportedly leading the chase to sign Fiorentina playmaker Josip Ilicic.
Once linked with Liverpool, things are turning sour for Slovenian international playmaker Josip Ilicic with Serie A side Fiorentina.
Ilicic is not only out of favour under Vincenzo Montella, but is on a collision course with Viola fans after a number of run-ins at the stadium and even at an airport.
It seems virtually assured that Ilicic will be allowed to leave Florence in January, and he's recently been linked with a move to England.
First it was Championship club Leeds United who were reportedly interested in Ilicic, but that was when his compatriot Darko Milanic was in charge of the team. It now looks increasingly unlikely that Leeds will make a move for Ilicic, with Adryan blossoming in attacking midfield.
Then, Aston Villa were allegedly monitoring his situation in Serie A, with manager Paul Lambert desperate to add some sort of creativity and attacking prowess to his side.
Yet it seems that Ilicic could be set to stay in Italy after Torino were named as the club leading the chase for his signature, according to reports.
The Turin side sold Alessio Cerci to Atletico Madrid this summer and need to add another playmaker to their side, and are confident of bringing in Ilicic in January.
It makes more sense for him to stay in Italy than to move over to England, with Torino needing a player just like Ilicic in a bid to finally replace Cerci.
Villa should still be in the running having failed to score many goals this season, but the emergence of Adryan surely rules Leeds out of the race.
