QPR latest: Charlie Austin reveals why Loftus Road move was perfect

The latest Queens Park Rangers transfer news, views and rumours.

Charlie Austin

Former Burnley striker Charlie Austin has revealed what was so perfect about his move to QPR.

The R's striker, who is in fine form at the moment, having scored seven Premier League goals so far this season, moved to Loftus Road from Burnley to spend another year in the Championship.

And Austin admits that extra season was perfect for his development, as opposed to a top-flight switch.

“I think I’ve grown as a person from it. Maybe going to the Premier League a year before would have been too soon anyway," Austin said during a revealing interview with FourFourTwo magazine.

“Maybe I’ve grown as a player more having another year in the Championship. People were trying to knock me to see what I could do but then I scored 20 goals for QPR and helped get them promoted. Maybe I needed that extra year.”

And, as a measure of how far the ex-Burnley striker has come, the 25-year-old has been voted QPR's player of the month for November.

Austin, the joint top-scoring Englishman in the Premier League, was presented with the award by midfielder and team-mate Leroy Fer, after fans voted for him via social media.
