Newcastle's Callum Roberts set for England Under-18 call-up - report

The youngster reportedly impressed during the Under-21s' win over Blackburn Rovers on Monday night.

Newcastle United can boast some real talent among their ranks this season.

Adam Armstrong has made a strong impression for Alan Pardew's side so far this term, while Rolando Aarons looks as though he has the potential to go very far.

But Newcastle's conveyor belt of quality young players does not stop there.

There is also 17-year-old Callum Roberts, who, according to the Shields Gazette, could be set for an international call-up with the England Under-18s.

The Magpies forward took part in Newcastle Under-21s' win over Blackburn Rovers on Monday night and England scouts were reportedly keeping an eye on him.

Roberts could, then, be set for an call-up to the Under-18 squad next year.

“I do like him," boss Pardew has said of the young forward in the past. “He has tremendous technique and ability – he’s knocking on the door."

Meanwhile, Newcastle's senior side face a tough task in the Premier League this weekend, when they will host league-leaders Chelsea at St James' Park in Saturday's early kick-off.

The Magpies did, however, beat the Blues 2-0 in the corresponding fixture last year.
