Arsenal players were brimming with delight after their late win over Southampton.
Arsenal clinched a hard fought win over Southampton thanks to another goal from Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean capitalised on a pass from Aaron Ramsey to give Arsenal a 1-0 over a side who came into the came six points above them.
Manager Arsene Wenger was delighted with the win, addressing their third successive clean sheet, and ability to defend against the counter-attack, an area in which they have been recently criticised.
He told Arsenal.com: "It was difficult for us to keep going from the start of the game because we’ve given a lot against Dortmund and on Saturday - today was the third game in seven days.
"You could see that we had to dig deep. We played against a good team who are very well organised and play very quick on the counter-attack. For us it was important not to be exposed on the counter-attack and to keep a clean sheet."
The Gunners keep pace with fourth place Manchester United, who are only two points in front and travel to Southampton on Monday night. Arsenal have a tricky tie away against Stoke City on Saturday.
Arsenal registered 19 shots at goal compared to Southampton's six, recording 57 per cent of possession.
