Manchester United transfer round-up: Five names linked with signing this week

Manchester United have been linked with some of the best players in Europe over the past seven days.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has finally got his side on a winning streak at a vital time in the season.

United are in the top four and will be looking to stay there for the rest of the season. Their chances of doing so will be improved if the club backs LvG over any players he requests in the winter transfer window.

Here are five of the best names linked with signing for the club from this week.

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

German tabloid Bild has suggested that Manchester United have already started going about a deal, which would allow them to sign Reus from the Bundesliga strugglers. He looks certain to move next year and United are a potential destination.

Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

There are few clubs who are in a position to be able to pay a huge fee for a player in the middle of a campaign. However, United showed last summer that they still have the resources to draw on to pull off big deals, which Cavani would be at a reported price of £50 million.

Kevin Strootman (AS Roma)

The Dutch midfielder has been a long term target for United and van Gaal is a well known admirer. However, the latest updates on United’s apparent interest suggest that Juan Mata may have to leave before Strootman can come in.

Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)

One area where United are likely to add a player this winter is their defence. Godin is one of several options but reports of United’s interest in him are fresh and suggest other reported targets are less likely.

Martin Odegaard (Stromsgodset)

The Norwegian teenager is thought to have close to 30 clubs chasing him, with Manchester United reportedly one of them. However, his current club stated earlier this week that they are yet to receive a formal offer from United.
