Steven Gerrard takes a question during a pregame press conference

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning.

Liverpool's players are desperate for Steven Gerrard to sign a new contract at the club according to Rickie Lambert.

Gerrard has been offered a new deal at the club, but has been given time to think about it, but Lambert has said he should finish his career at Anfield.

He's quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “It’s clear that it’s his decision and the club’s decision but I think he needs to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his life – that’s just my opinion.

“Stevie is his own man but he is Mr Liverpool so it’s up to the club to sort out, nothing to do with me.”

Lambert added that he is still one of the best players around and has a huge contribution to make to the side, following on from his vital goal against Leicester City in the 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.

He said: “His all-round play, his vision, everything about him. When he has got the ball he is going to put it into the area you want. Whether he is closer to me or further it makes no difference, he is always going to put it where you want.”

Vice-captain Jordan Henderson said it would be 'unimaginable' for Steven Gerrard to play his football elsewhere as he described him as a 'top player and a top person'.

He's quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: "The lads can go to him with anything. He will always help them out and put them first. That is massive as a captain. Everyone gets on really well with him.

“If he was to go, he would be a massive loss. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that."
