We bring you the best reaction from Sunderland fans to on-loan defender Sebastian Coates's performance against Manchester City last night.
Sebastian Coates endured a torrid Premier League debut for Sunderland last night, which has left many fans questioning his value to the team.
The central-defender, who signed on loan last summer, has suffered with injury problems since arriving in the North East, but his comeback performance was not one to be proud of.
Coates struggled to contain Manchester City's attacking threat, as his side slipped to a heavy 4-1 defeat to the reigning Premier League champions.
The Uruguayan centre-back was directly at fault for City's first-goal of the night, which brought Manuel Pellegrini's side level after Connor Wickham had put the hosts in-front, with Sergio Aguero bursting past him to score.
He never seemed to recover, either, and as City continued to hit the back of the net the concerns over his ability increased.
“I’m sure that Seba is not going to be happy with me,” Poyet admitted to the Shields Gazette after the game.
“He was coming back from injury, Wes didn’t train for two days and we need him for Saturday because Coates is not available."
“It’s unfair on Coates, probably, but this is football and you need to be ready.”
There was little sympathy shown from Sunderland fans, though, who were scathing in their analysis of the 24-year-old's display.
Here is the best reaction from Black Cats fans to Coates's performance on social media site Twitter.
With hindsight... perhaps it may have been better if Seb was RB & Vergini moved to CB if Gus thinks it was unfair to play Coates. #SAFC— Cattermole Hour (@PallionHour) December 4, 2014
What we learned from last night. Wes get stick and rightly at times but defence is considerably better with him in. Coates Positionally— Ian (@ian_safc_1974) December 4, 2014
