Manchester City players took to Twitter on Wednesday night to celebrate their 4-1 victory at Sunderland.
Manchester City remained in touch with leaders Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table after an emphatic 4-1 win at Sunderland on Wednesday night.
City didn’t have it all their own way in the first-half, when the hosts took the lead on 19 minutes through Connor Wickham, but the prolific Sergio Aguero hit back only two minutes later with a fierce shot from 15 yards out.
The Argentine then set up strike-partner Stefan Jovetic for the visitors' second five minutes before half-time, before Pablo Zabaleta increased their lead after the break with a fine chip over former Blues goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon.
Aguero added another for his 14th league goal of the season fifteen minutes from the end to seal the result, with manager Manuel Pellegrini declaring his side to be back to their best at the final whistle.
“I think we are returning to the performances we had last season,” he told M.E.N Sport. “I think if we continue playing this way of course we will fight for the title, but I think three or four other teams will also be there."
With three straight top-flight wins putting them back on track, the City squad were just as pleased with the result, with goalscorers Aguero, Jovetic and Zabaleta all taking to Twitter to express their delight, along with Yaya Toure, Fernandinho and injured skipper Vincent Kompany.
We were able to lift the curse in a tricky field. The goals? Always the more enjoyable when we win! C'mon, City!— Sergio Kun Aguero (@aguerosergiokun) December 3, 2014
