One Leeds United youngster has been talking following their FA Youth Cup match against Chelsea.

Leeds United youngster Robbie McDaid has been speaking following the under-18s’ FA Youth Cup defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

The reigning champions won 2-0 at Elland Road but Jason Blunt’s side put in a fine performance and can take great pride from their efforts.

Speaking to Leeds’ official website, McDaid said, “The boys are pretty upbeat about it. We haven’t had the rub of the green this season. We’ve been putting in the performances but haven’t been getting results.”

Leeds' senior side contains a number of players who previously turned out for the Academy and the Championship club continue to produce exciting young talent who could break into Neil Redfearn’s side in the future.

That will certainly be something on the minds of those players who took to the field against Chelsea and McDaid believes the Leeds youngsters can take a lot from their latest encounter.

“I think this is the turning point in our season now,” he added. “We played really well against a team who will probably go on and win the whole tournament.

“That’s where every kid wants to be with fans roaring against teams like Chelsea at Elland Road; it’s what dreams are made of.”

It certainly is, and it will be interesting to see which of the current crop of under-18s ultimately make the grade at a club that finally appears to be on the up again with Redfearn at the helm.
