The Dutch manager is not as hard-nosed as many feared.
It was a close one, but last night saw Manchester United continue their recent good form with a close fought win against Stoke City at Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal's men dominated possession for much of the game and when Marouane Fellaini put them one up it seemed as though this would be another walk in the park.
But Stoke equalised through Steven N'Zonzi and a fortunate goal from Juan Mata ended up saving the day. That is not entirely true. A combination of United pair David De Gea and Ashley Young defied logic in the dying mnutes to ensure three points secured and not two points dropped - much to Van Gaal's pleasure.
The Manchester United boss came to England with a fierce reputation. But overall he has shown off his lighter side since arriving in England. Occasionally offish with the odd stupid question but in most cases polite, charming and welcoming.
Especially with the fans.
That was evident last night as he posed for photographs with loyal Manchester United stoppers, even as a new day rolled in at midnight.
Good on you Louis.
