Michael Owen believes Christian Benteke has the ability to save Aston Villa's season.
Paul Lambert's have slipped down the Premier League table due to a dire run of form, but Benteke's return ignited a revival last night in their game against Crystal Palace.
The Belgian scored the only goal of the match to provide Villa with the three points which lifted them up to 12th place.
It was a victory which ended their nine game wait for a win and Owen believes that having Benteke available for selection could see Lambert's men avoid the drop this campaign.
"Wow. Aston Villa fans must be buzzing Benteke is back," Owen said on Sports Lobster. "He could save them this season if he gets back to his best. That was some finish last night."
Benteke missed the start of the season after picking up a serious Achilees injury and his comeback was halted by his indiscipline.
The powerful centre-forward has not been available for the side since picking up a red-card against Tottenham Hotspur, but he seems determined to make up for lost time now.
Benteke's goal last night proved just how important he is to Villa, as his moment of quality lit up what was a poor game.
The 24-year-old burst past a number of Palace defenders, before curling the ball into the bottom of the net from just outside the box.
It was a vital win for Villa, who have found the pressure mounting on them to get a result in recent weeks, and they will now be looking to build on this success in their upcoming fixtures.
The Midlands side next take on a struggling Leicester City side, in what looks another winnable contest.
